On Saturday, 28 March 2026, the Swansea Philharmonic Choir delivered a truly special performance at the Brangwyn Hall, bringing Ralph Vaughan Williams’ vast and exhilarating A Sea Symphony to life. Under the inspiring leadership and musical direction of Jonathan Rogers, the choir was joined by the British Sinfonietta and exceptional soloists, soprano Eleri Gwilym and baritone James Geidt.

The evening opened with the visionary Five Mystical Songs, featuring James Geidt, before diving into the main event. Setting words by Walt Whitman, the symphony’s sweeping orchestral seascapes and soaring choral writing provided an immersive experience that resonated deeply with the audience.

The quality of the singing throughout the night was fantastic, and it was clear to everyone present how much dedication and hard work went into preparing for this ambitious work over a short Easter term. The orchestra and soloists were equally outstanding, and together we created something very special that was a joy to experience.

The audience reaction was wonderful, with many describing the evening as “spectacular” and “awesome.” A particular word of thanks must go to Jon for his inspiring leadership and musical direction, and to Chris for his skill and support throughout. Your contributions were invaluable and deeply appreciated, as always.

Congratulations again to everyone involved. It was amazing to be part of such a memorable performance – a true highlight of our choral season that captured the soul’s journey through life and transcendence.
