A Standing Ovation for Handel’s Messiah

On the evening of December 21st, 2025, the Swansea Philharmonic Choir presented a powerful performance of Handel’s Messiah. The concert served as a highlight of the city’s festive season, bringing together local residents and music lovers for a night of memorable choral music.

Under the baton of Musical Director Jonathan Rogers the choir delivered a performance distinguished by technical precision and emotional depth. The evening was further enhanced by the accompaniment of the prestigious British Sinfonietta, and featured four guest soloists: Meinir Wyn Roberts (soprano), Leah-Marian Jones (mezzo-soprano), Adam Gilbert (tenor), and Richard Walshe (bass). Together, they delivered the oratorio’s narrative with a balance of lyrical skill and dramatic presence.

It was a magnificent performance and the standard achieved was outstanding – a great credit to everyone involved. As always, we are deeply indebted to our conductor, Jon, whose clear and inspiring leadership brought everything together.

The acoustics of the Brangwyn Hall complemented the choir’s performance, particularly during the Hallelujah Chorus. The warm and enthusiastic reception from the audience, culminating in a standing ovation, served as a well-earned acknowledgment of the choir’s hard work.
