On 8th June 2024, Swansea Philharmonic Choir performed their summer charity concert entitled ‘Sing Gently’ in aid of Breast Cancer Now at All Saints’ Church, Oystermouth.
Despite competing with a spell of glorious weather, almost 200 people attended at an earlier start time of 6 pm.
The repertoire was carefully chosen for the evening reflecting, as our Conductor, Jonathan Rogers, so aptly described “the universal power of music to uplift and console.” The Choir sang gently or with contrasting intensity of sound as befitted the sentiments expressed in the words.
Our soloists for the evening, Ed Roberts, Ryan Evans, Emma Kennedy and Penny George gave fine performances which were greatly enjoyed and appreciated at the concert. All four have taken part in the Swansea Philharmonic Choir Scholarship Scheme which supports choral singing in young people.
As our Chair, Hazel Phillips, said:
“It was a pleasure to hear Huw Tregelles Williams accompanying us on the organ, to see Susan receiving deserved public recognition for her talents, and to watch Jon with his passion and musicianship creating a powerful and moving performance.”
