On 23rd March we celebrated the 300th anniversary of Bach’s St John Passion with the British Sinfonietta and soloists, Gareth Treseder, Dan D’Souza, James Geidt, Emily Vine, Kieron-Conor Valentine and Gareth Meirion Edmunds.
Two audience members kindly took the time to send an email to our membership secretary, Alison Weare, with their thoughts following the concert:
“We attended the St John Passion at the Brangwyn Hall yesterday evening and it would now be so remiss not to contact you. The choir were an absolute triumph – consistent from start to finish. When the chorus opened the evening with those first notes, it was clear that the evening would be one to remember. The phrasing, uniformity and discipline, enunciation and colour of tone made attending the event an absolute delight. Having the opportunity to be there was a privilege, and for that, we owe you our thanks.
It goes without saying that the conducting of Jonathan Rogers was masterful, and an absolute exemplar of his craft. As wonderful as the soloists and the whole Sinfonietta were, the choir provided a vehicle by which the depth and beauty of the Passion could be conveyed.
You have our thanks and gratitude for all that the choir brought to us throughout the evening, and for the time, effort and sacrifices its members must have made in order to create such a beautiful and moving experience.”
We are so grateful as a choir to have Jonathan Rogers, our conductor and musical director, who always inspires and encourages us to perform to the best of our abilities. We are also very fortunate to have Susan Croall our talented indefatigable accompanist.
